LECTURER BIOGRAPHIES – MCAST – Institute for the Creative Arts
Ruth Ancilleri, Lecturer in Fine Arts
Ruth is a visual artist, illustrator and fine arts lecturer based in the island of Malta. In 2007, she completed a Masters in Visual Arts at the Libera Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence and is currently reading a Masters in Illustration (Visual Communication) at the University of Hertfordshire.
After her studies in Florence in 2008, she worked as a Junior Draughtsperson and Illustrator on the Alejandro Amenábar film Agora, where she learned hands-on skills and gained more confidence in the creative industry.
Throughout the years she has collaborated with other artists and designers on various artistic ventures; events, exhibitions, and freelance projects including working as a freelance illustrator and judge for the Malta National Book Council.
She is currently a Lecturer in Fine Arts at the MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts in Malta where she has been teaching for the past eight years.
Ian Attard, Lecturer in Media
Ian is a currently reading for a Doctorate degree in active learning and alternative styles of education. Works as a Senior Lecturer and Institute Coordinator in the Media Department at the Institute for the Creative Arts, MCAST, Malta.
In 2003, Ian directed and produced a multimedia installation in a Maltese leading exhibition gallery, entitled ‘I Feel Guilty’.
In December 2003, illustration works were selected to be featured in a UK publication, ‘Computer Arts’.
Following an academic course, ‘Expert of Applied Video Arts in Multimedia’, held in Rome, in December 2005, Ian commenced an academic journey in film studies at Southampton Solent University, England.
In 2007, Ian was entrusted to work as a junior researcher at the BBC, White City, London, on a TV factual documentary entitled ‘My Life as a Child’.
Upon graduating in 2008 Mr Attard furthered his studies by pursuing a course in HD Cinematography and Lighting at the London Metropolitan Film School.
In his capacity as a Technical Producer and Project Executive Producer for Solent Enterprise Media Centre, UK, Ian produced various large scale media projects such as the production of a 30 second commercial for Channel4, UK, live coverage of Glastonbury Music Festival 2007/2008, and Cowes Week 2009. In 2010 Ian was conferred with a Masters Degree in Media.
Redd Caruana Lecturer in Interactive Media
Redd is a technical artist specialised in code, with background knowledge in fine art and graphic design. Currently lecturing at MCAST Institute for the Creative Arts, he has helped bring various student centered projects to life, including games for HSBC’s Catch the Drop campaign, and the Malta National Aquarium. Independently, he works on various short-term projects which include websites, games, and interactive installations.
Rosemarie Dorekens, Lecturer in Media
Rosemarie studied her Masters in Media Management, Film and Media Studies (with Merit) at the University of Stirling and she holds a Bachelor degree at the University of Malta in Communications with Psychology. In 2009 she was awarded the Harold Scorey Scholarship in Broadcast Journalism where she did an internship with HARDtalk team at BBC in London. In 2010 she won the National Prize for the European Parliament Journalism Award for Print Journalism Award and came second in the National Prize of the EU Journalist Award “For Discrimination Against Diversity”.
Gary Hampton, Lecturer in Photography
Gary is a photojournalist and documentary photographer who documents the state of the world’s health, in particular ‘rare’ and ‘forgotten diseases in the world. He is also engaged in documenting and recording the people who are fighting for recognition and new treatments for these diseases.
He has worked in England, France, Australia, India, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Nepal, Indonesia, South Africa, Malawi, Botswana, Uganda and Zambia.
His work has been published in Time magazine, New York Times, Le Monde, Science magazine, and many other international publications. He works regularly with UN Agencies and International NGOs and his photos are held in several institutional collections and are exhibited around the world.
